Lauren Graham Reveals Shocking Truth About Her ‘Gilmore Girls’ Paychecks
Oy with the Gilmore Girls revivals already.
In the near decade since the cast and crew of the beloved show reunited for A Year in the Life, fans have been asking for more. And after star Lauren Graham teased her idea for a Christmas movie, series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino revealed that she was finding out about the idea alongside the rest of the world.
“The freaking Christmas Special,” Amy joked to E! News in an exclusive joint interview with her husband and producing partner Daniel Palladino. “I'm hearing it from everybody else.”
And though she couldn’t help but gush about how Lauren’s enthusiasm was “very cute,” the 59-year-old made it clear that a continuation of the Gilmore family’s small-town antics will not be in the near future, adding, “There’s no talks right now.”
Indeed, at the moment, the duo is busy with their new Prime Video series Étoile, which premieres April 24. But they haven’t fully closed the door on a return to Stars Hollow—in part due to getting the chance to revisit their beloved characters after walking away from the series in 2006 after season six. (The series ultimately ended after season seven.)
“We never thought that the Netflix movies would happen,” Daniel said of the four-part revival, which aired nine years after the original series’ finale. “We're constantly thinking of stuff for Stars Hollow, because anything kind of quirky American makes us want to put it into Stars Hollow. But there's no set thing right now.”
Nonetheless, the couple has maintained a strong bond with the cast of the early aughts series over the years. And this is apparent both on and off the screen, as The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s Luke Kirby stars in their new dance-world dramedy alongside Gilmore Girls’ Yanic Truesdale, Kelly Bishop and Dakin Matthews.
“We tend to stay very close to the to our to our casts,” Daniel explained. “We love actors, we love working with actors. I don't think that's true of some people that do what we do, but we love actors.”
“It's why we became directors,” he continued. “Ultimately, we started as writers, but we gravitated into directing—first to protect our material, but second, because we wanted to work directly with actors and not just stand on the sidelines while someone else got to do the fun stuff.”

As for how Amy would sum up the bond she and Daniel share with the casts they work with?
“We just simply don't let them leave,” she joked. “We just don't let them go. It's a little bit of Stockholm Syndrome, a little bit of a hostage situation—our relationship with our actors.”
And perhaps the endearing hold Amy and Daniel have on the actors explains why Lauren’s reboot pitch was so well thought out in the first place—especially after she and Scott Patterson, who played Luke Danes, reprised their roles for a holiday commercial.
"I think [what] the Brits do so well with their beloved shows is that you get a Christmas special,” Lauren explained on Armchair Expert last month after noting that scheduling constraints made a Christmas movie the best bet. “It's not episodes, but it's seeing all your friends together again. It's one of the reasons I thought the Walmart commercial was a sweet, where-are-they-now kind of thing."
